For the second year, MuslimARC (the Muslim Anti-Racism Collaborative) is honoring community organizations, groups, and/or teams that have advanced racial justice. After amplifying work in Los Angeles last year, this year's award recipients are Michigan-based organizations that have demonstrated a history of work that is

1. collaborative
2. creative; and
3. community-focused.

2017 Award Recipients:

• Dream of Detroit, a Muslim-led initiative that’s combining community organizing with strategic housing and land development to build a healthy community and empower marginalized neighborhoods
• We the People of Detroit, a grassroots organization dedicated to community coalition building and to the provision of resources that inform, train and mobilize the citizens of Detroit to improve their quality of life.
• African Bureau for Immigration and Social Affairs (ABISA), which promotes social and economic justice, civic participation, and empowerment of African immigrants and refugees; and
• The Muslim House, Inc., a nationally recognized house of worship & social service institution with the mission to submit to God, serve humanity, support families, and strive to improve Flint.

Honorable Mentions:

• CAIR-MI, the Council on American-Islamic Relations - Michigan chapter, for the work of Dawud Walid and Asha Noor
• ARISE, the Association of Refugees Immigrants and Survivors of Human Trafficking Engage in the AIDS Response, for the work of Claire Gasamagera
