Michigan Gala 2018

Join us on Saturday, November 10th for a MuslimARC evening of culture, storytelling, and more.

The 2018 Michigan Gala will feature delicious food, calligraphy and henna for guests, spoken word, a cappella, news about the ARCHouse and other MuslimARC programs, and our 4th annual racial justice awards!

MuslimARC is excited to host poet Tariq Touré and singing duo Straingth Wizdumb for what promises to be a spectacular evening of diversity and inspiration.

As a celebration of our diversity, semi-formal cultural attire is requested from our guests. Examples include suit and (bow)tie, salwar kameez, abaya, dirac, saree, kimono, kilt, etc.

This event will be hosted in the Annex of the Arab American National Museum. Parking is free and the venue is wheelchair accessible. Food served will include halal, vegetarian, and vegan options.

MuslimARC is deeply honored to recognize and amplify the work of 4 individuals for this year's racial justice awards:

For creating spaces for learning and developing racial equity, we recognize Julia Putnam, principal of The Boggs School.

For connecting people from different ethnic backgrounds through the use of multimedia, storytelling, and/or dialogue, we recognize Zarinah El-Amin Naeem, founder of Beautifully Wrapped & the Headwrap Expo.

For cultivating solutions for increased racial equity in our society, we recognize Amanda Alexander, founding Executive Director of the Detroit Justice Center.

And, last but not least, for demonstrating a long-standing commitment to racial justice work that has impacted communities and inspired change, we recognize the Honorable Adam Shakoor, attorney-at-law and former Chief Judge of the 36th District Court.
